By exploring the capabilities and materiality of paint, I became fascinated with
the solidity of it once it’s dry. I began to contemplate paint as being sculptural,
and as an extension or growth to already existing objects.
By pouring onto objects, or dipping them into paint, the result was a series of
pieces extending beyond their original forms, allowing them to be considered
as entirely new items. The use of colour in my work became a way to emphasize
the fluidity of the pouring process; the various colours of paint collide with the
shapes and edges of each structure and create naturally formed lines that spill
beyond the object, eventually hardening and creating its new form.
I experimented with using moulds such as ice cube trays and balloons so that
when the mould is removed, or the balloon pops or deflates; the dried paint
remains as its own sculptural piece.
