Mainstream culture has conditioned individuals to be obsessive over the new and dismissive of the used, and to value surface chats over deep conversations. Ruby Clark’s predominantly sculptural based practice explores ways in which we communicate and interact in our consumer driven world. Attempting to highlight the scale on which we create waste, Clark sources and recycles disregarded objects that would otherwise be sent to landfill. Clark’s work is concerned with notions of consumerism, communication and materiality. Recently her work centres around investigating language through use of materials, to find and create a material language for human emotion.
