Publication Collection

Background

The Department of Employment, Education and Workplace Relations (DEEWR) (formally The Department of Employment Education and Training, DEST) collects data on the research outputs of all Australian universities. The Higher Education Research Data Collection (HERDC) collects research publications performance data and these outputs result in research funding for universities.

This process is generally referred to as the “Publication collection”, and happens on a yearly basis, the year in which the HERDC is reported will always be one year ahead of the year about which data is being collected. Therefore HERDC 2009 collects data relating to the 2008 year.

What you need to do

  1. STEP 1: Gather you research outputs together.
    You will need all your work published/exhibited in 2008
  2. STEP2: Decide which publication category to use. 
    quick summary of categories will help you locate the right category. You can find more detail on the definitions of all the categories by looking at the eligibility criteria.
  3. STEP 3:Complete the Form/Checklist for EACH of your publications.
    You find the relevant form/checklist underneath the eligibility criteria for that category.

    Note: Only use -Ext forms if you were not at Monash when it was published.
    The fields in BOLD are essential fields, so please try to fill them all in.
    AOU and FOR codes are essential.
  4. STEP 4:Print the Form/Checklist(s) and sign them.
  5. STEP 5: Attach all the relevant documentation.
    Examples of evidence are invitation cards, exhibition catalogues, lists of work, conference papers, journal articles, book chapters, books, publisher information – you can find out what information is required by looking at the checklist.
