A Little Community

Art healing children and their families.

“Including dynamic and interesting artworks within a hospital environment, particularly a paediatric hospital, plays a crucial role in the healing process.” – Lawrence Springborg, Queensland Minister for Health

The innovative, socially inclusive Lady Cilento Children's Hospital Art Program, curated by Lynne Seear, includes architecturally integrated works by Emily Floyd, Richard Bell and Helga Groves. The large scale sculptural installation by Emily Floyd in the atrium of the hospital both distracts and engages. A Little Community depicts indigenous parrots perched through the hospital’s main atrium. The work complements the ‘living tree concept’ used by architects Conrad Gargett Lyons as the basis for the design of the hospital. The architecture and the art inform each other working in partnership to promote the healing powers of nature.
