A Temporary Community Facility for Kinglake

A Temporary Community Facility for Kinglake

In response to the bushfires that devastated lives, homes and communities in Kinglake VIC Australia, Monash Architecture has conducted an intensive studio to collectively design and build a communal facility in a temporary village that is being developed to house the displaced community. The resulting multipurpose structure, set in relation to a playground, will help generate a place for residents to discuss the future rebuilding as well as host social occasions and events.

Working with Prof. Silvia Acosta, from the Rhode Island School of Design her colleague Adrienne Benz, a group of second-year students created a pavilion providing seating, barbeque, and fire pit to generate a collective space for the community.

The project opens on 3 October in conjunction with the opening of the Kinglake Temporary Housing Village.
