Industrial Design student selected to travel to London

Third-year Industrial Design student Adam Hodgson is on an all-expenses-paid trip to London England this week, courtesy of the Monash Global Discovery Program.

He’s one of seven students selected from across Monash University to meet the UK branch of the Monash Global Leaders’ Group – a prestigious committee of prominent Monash alumni who seek to enhance the experience of current Monash students by providing opportunities for learning and mentorship.

The UK branch is led by chairperson Dr Siobhan Martin (Executive Director HR, Mercer), with committee members Simon Bird (General Manager, Savoo International), Gina Leong (Lloyds), Christopher Murphy (Group Managing Director, ThoughtWorks), Damien Staples (General Manager, Global Business Development, BT Global Services) and Michael Lee (Director, Head of Consultants UK Deutsche Asset & Wealth Management). Additional Monash Global Leaders’ Groups have been established in New York City, San Francisco, Singapore, and Hong Kong.

Over seven days, Adam and his fellow travellers will meet with an incredible range of UK professionals, including the Monash Global Leaders, the Head of Digital UK at Samsung, James Keady, the CEO of redT Energy, Scott McGregor, and the Director of Credit Suisse, Sonali Abeysuriya.

They’ll also be given exclusive tours of a variety of notable UK business headquarters and will spend an evening at London’s Australia House in a special reception with Australia’s High Commissioner to Britain, The Hon Alexander Downer AC.

Adam explains that as an Industrial Design student at MADA, “I’m always trying to do things a bit differently. In the future, I would like to discover new ways of making our every day lives more environmentally sustainable. But in order to do that, I must first discover a new perspective.”

Travelling to London with the Monash Global Discovery Program will enable Adam to develop valuable international relationships, share his ideas with like-minded people, and hopefully, begin to discover that new perspective he’s after.
