David Townsend
Final year student
(Bachelor of Multimedia & Digital Arts)

David Townsend moved from Tasmania to study multimedia design at Monash. David says that he started designing websites in primary school but from around Year 10 started seriously looking into university design courses with Monash being his first choice.

He describes Monash as providing 'a pretty cool environment where you can bounce ideas around with a really good group of students'. He praises the Monash program for allowing him to spend time developing as a multimedia designer without commercial pressures, 'I think it's been really important to have those three years to let loose and do the projects you want to do without real-world constraints'.

David is a key organiser of the designer collective and website portal Design is Kinky. In 2003, the group presented 'SemiPermanent', a highly successful international conference in Sydney which attracted over 2,500 web designers.

Now in his final year at Monash, David is looking to set up his own business in motion graphics while balancing this with non-commercial work such as organising exhibitions.

Cameron Tullberg
Monash graduate
(Master of Multimedia)

"Studying at Monash University as a postgraduate student has been a great experience. The staff have always been professional and keen to pass on their experiences and expertise, and have treated the students as real colleagues. Also, as many of the other postgraduate students within Art & Design are working within the industry, it has been a great opportunity to meet like minded people and develop useful networks.

I was a general duties member of the Victoria Police Force at the beginning of the course, and hoped to be able to gain enough knowledge and expertise to be able to pursue a career in Forensic Animation. I also hoped to develop a network of friends and colleagues within the Multimedia Design industry. Within a year of commencing the Master of Multimedia course, I was able to join the Criminal Identification Squad of the Victoria Police. I now specialise in Forensic Animation, producing both 2-D and 3-D interactive presentations for use in major criminal investigations. As a result of commencing my postgraduate studies, I have achieved the goals I originally set for myself, and am now looking forward to bigger and better things."
