One of the key problems with today’s population is having the feeling of ‘so much to do, with so little time’. With the limited access of nature in the urban area, this issue may lead to the increase of an individual’s stress. A natural environment can assist a space in encouraging mindfulness, which is essential for a healthy community. CityZen aims to diversify the individual’s experience in the urban natural environment. The project intends to amplify natural elements of wind and water, to buffer urban sounds from trains and other transports. The project provides a space of immersion in sound that responds to the city environment. The design strategy uses bamboo as a tool to create sound and control unwanted sounds. The form of the design looks into bamboo’s growth and cell structure to create pockets of seclusion within a sound forest of bamboo.
