This research project focuses on mental health awareness of stress and anxiety in the international setting of Hong Kong SAR. Ongoing studies suggest that the result of Hong Kong’s rigid society, including architectural form and social structure, has caused individuals to neglect their own mental health and wellbeing. In this project, non-clinical approaches including Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) and Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction (MBSR) have been used in conjunction with soundscapes to help users become aware of and improve their own mental health. Three heavy pedestrian traffic locations were identified as ideal locations for creating zones for users to engage with CBT and MBSR methods to enable mental release. Using materials and forms that contrast with the current, rigid environment in combination with meditative soundscapes, Mediscape takes users on a winding route punctuated with meditation pods to offer relief and respite from the pressures of the everyday.
