Art Connect is a LGBTIQ community mental health service located in the heart of Melbourne. This project seeks to explore how creative spatial environments can aid in the improvement of mental health. Using art and art therapy as the form of treatment and a way of informing the main programs within the design, this outpatient service looks at the potential of hybridised program and design to allow for better engagement with the wider community, to promote social connectedness and to look at this concept as a paradigm capable of breaking down the stigma and mystery surrounding mental health. Art Connect is about bringing to light the issue of mental health and to signify to the wider community that it is important that these services stand out and they are acknowledged. It’s about bringing greater support, understanding and engagement to people who need it the most.
