Is it possible to create a series of monuments, which through haptic engagement, induce memories that transition one from an external physical space to an internal psychic space? The Monument Series explores the intersecting frameworks of design in interior architecture and intellectual speculative development. The Monuments have been designed with haptic properties prioritised over pure ocularcentrism to engage the mental, spiritual and sensual dimensions of the human experience in order to build and construct an internal metaphysical space to encourage transcendence in palliative and hospice care patients. While acknowledging that this research may not yield the results expected, it pursues this path in a quest to explore the possibilities and to build new knowledge. Experimentation with untraditional construction materials provided insight in experimental approach into how to build materials that harness and engage the senses beyond out physical boundaries.'
