SOMA is a speculative design project that explores how current developing medical technology impact the space of the clinic, dispensary and surgery. The design is an automated health clinic specifically designed for non emergency patients. It is open 24 hours a day and provides diagnosis and medication dispensation, healing for external injuries such as burns and abrasions as well as on the spot robotic surgery.
SOMA also includes the SOMA System, an imagined nation wide health initiative which installs personal health monitor into citizens at birth. This device tracks an individuals health. This device is central to the use of the clinic and offers a higher rate of preventative care thus reducing medical expenses.
