Co-exist: Hoons + Public

In Josefine Fokdal’s Power and Space, the concept of appropriation is defined as “a fight for power within a space that do not change the function of the space but that introduce additional functions such as the establishment of an identity or the articulation of an interest.” The design project Co-exist: Hoons + Public is investigating the various tactics of appropriation used by social groups within the public realm and how such tactics can have the potential to create a flexible space within an existing dominant infrastructure. The project aims to address the constant tension between hoons and the general public on Princes Highway and its surround vicinities.
