DOCTOR OF PHILOSOPHY (PHD)

You can undertake your PhD in either studio-practice based mode or traditional thesis-only mode. The difference is in the mode of examination – studio-practice candidates develop an exhibition accompanied by a written exegesis of 30,000 words, while thesis-only candidates produce a written thesis of 80,000 words.

The Monash PhD program rigorously trains you in research through academic supervision, plus a suite of coursework units that will impart skills and knowledge, assisting you to conduct your research for both your degree and future career.

Supervisors

The relationship with your supervisors is at the heart of your PhD experience. MADA supervisors are experienced practitioners, not simply academics. Many of them come from a background as professional artists, designers or architects.
