My work involves a process of exploration and engagement with my environment; through seeking out, documenting and recording what is around me. I am drawn to the idea of the city, and after dark this is most stirring. A connectedness of elements across the city can be seen through rhythms, patterns and light. These exist in the illuminated windows, hidden spaces and towering buildings I capture. The divide between interior and exterior spaces fascinates me, as well as a sense of voyeurism. The psychological effects of being immersed in an urban environment and the concept of psychogeography have also informed my work. I aim to show a sense of place, imply narrative and ultimately create an experience of the city. The darkness of the images can be continued through the method of projection, voiding the space in front of the viewer to create an immersive and cinematic work.
