Identity. Grids. Charity Bins.

These three things define Emily Browne’s art.

In the last four years of university Emily has returned to the subject of identity over and over again. From her work with self-creation and perception through make up to the current Untitled (fourteen strangers) which engages the viewer to form their own reading of the people depicted, or to find the linking images, Emily uses the works to explore her own identity and place.

Emily also dallies in objects, her 2012 Left series captures everyday objects that are slowly disappearing from the common vernacular and the streets. The three part series included Charity Clothing Bins, Metcard Ticket Machines and Phone Boxes.

A single image is never enough for her and whatever the subject, Emily’s stylistic choice is usually a grid and the 2012 Graduate Show is no different.
