  • Untitled #5 Oil paint on plywood
    240 x 240 cm
Stephanie Freda Leigh

My practice focuses around four elements, Paint, Wood, Body and Object. Each of my works is painted with oil paints on plywood subjecting body object hybrids within empty wooden spatial areas. I am interested in discussing issues of the body in relation to body measurements against objects and architectural spaces. The use of plywood as a canvas references architectural building materials used for walls, floors and furniture. The plywood creates an industrial element, bringing forth ideas of the constructed spaces humans engage with. As the figures are nude and their bodies are situated in quite seductive positions, their actions are rather intimate and thereby speak of a domestic private space, being that of the home. The walls these figures intersect with enable us to think about walls of the private space; lived space, the kind of walls that keep us safe, covered and hidden.
