In November 2011, a nursing home fire in Quakers Hill in New South Wales occurred.

It was labelled a fire fighter's worst nightmare. This event became my inspiration. A year later, I have designed a new product for people who cannot help themselves in an evacuation. A product that buys people extra time in an emergency - The Snug.

The Snug is a bed with an inbuilt smoke cover which is automatically deployed when smoke is detected. Targeted at Supported Residential Services, the Snug has been designed for a variety of people and has been colour coded to provide fire fighters with information as to the type impairment, whether it be physical or mental, the occupant is suffering from. The Snug provides a clean air environment that protects the occupant while they wait to be evacuated.
