This project explores the question of how Interior Architecture can assist in the rehabilitation and reintegration of those who have experienced the prison system? As a form of psychotherapy, the proposed program of an Arts Therapy and Community Centre allows for an ease of reintegration for ex-offenders. The chosen site for this research project is the Former Northcote Cable Tram and Engine House in Melbourne’s northern suburbs. Furthermore, the spatial inquiry and conceptual ideas of re-claiming and re-connecting are brought to the fore through modular form within space. However space cannot be claimed without a physical object or for and this creates the opportunity for connecting and re-configuring thereby symbolizing adaptability.
