The project aims to benefit visually-impaired individuals by moving away from the visual bias in design, in favour of more multi-sensory environments. The vaults of Melbourne's Old Treasury Building will house a subterranean observatory for both the blind and sighted, a series of celestial phenomena to be experienced at an intimate, human scale. It aims to translate of some of these furthermost natural spectacles into inclusive environments, and explores synaesthetic relationships between colour and sound. The vaults reveal the unexpected soundscapes of outer space, and hope to facilitate dialogue between users; a collaborative narrative between seeing and feeling, a journey towards perceptual acuity.
