The project proposes a ‘microcosm-sacred space’ for the Blairgowrie community.

The design of the space is derived from the notion of sacred spaces for atheism. A Sacred space may refer to a space of contemplation, where one experiences that opposing to the profane, where contrast between secular and the greater is highlighted.

The project researches and explores religious and sacred spaces, rituals, microcosm, the sublime, the axis mundi, self-identity and community. The space invites one to experience the contrast between the mundane and the sublime through spatial design, programs, rituals and sensorial qualities.

Overall, the ‘microcosm-sacred space’ for atheism intends to house the surrounding community and enable one to search for self-identity and belonging whilst becoming a part of a greater community relationship. The space becomes the centre point for Blairgowrie ‘the axis mundi’ and the community microcosm, representing an intersection for self-awareness and community relationships.
