The City of Melbourne promotes the city centre as a place for innovation via its aptitude for creative risk taking. This predisposition provides the potential to critically engage with the City’s strategic plans surrounding sustainability. This engagement is sparked by an analysis of the City of Melbourne’s planning policies and enacted through a series of small-scale architectural interventions that are conceived of as catalysts for a wider urban network. Located at different levels of and locations within the city centre, the suite of projects aim to build an image of the potential future of the city as a whole and questions the contribution careful, small scale architectural interventions may make to its sustainable development. In each project the detail is negotiated as an opportunity to explore tactics towards engagement at the scale of human experience, in view of connecting these sustainable urban strategies to the individual.
