Dr Tony Hanning
Position title
- Lecturer, Gippsland Centre for Art & Design
Qualifications
- PhD (Visual Art), Monash University
- Master of Fine Art, Monash University
- Diploma Visual Art, G.I.A.E
Statement
Tony Hanning is an internationally recognised glass artist. His work centres on the role of memory and place in the inducement of reverie. Utilising the light carrying properties of glass he carves layers of coloured glass on blown forms to create a sense of 'place' This involves considerable drawing and research into narratives that present a range of visual stimuli that could loosely be classed as "things we remember never having seen". He is concerned with the practice of bringing the unconscious into the momentary in a range of materials beyond glass such as photography and drawing.
He is a former Director of Latrobe Regional Gallery and continues to curate exhibitions in public spaces.
Remembering art school as "the best days of his life" he is rewarded by the opportunity to be part of the best days of someone else's life as a Lecturer and mentor.
