Found paper-bark, wire, butchers hooks, dimensions variable.

Protection 1, a suspended sculpture made from found bark and wire, evolved through my gathering of paper bark from the ground that had either fallen naturally or been stripped by other human hands. For me, these objects hold a literal layering of time, memory and purpose, an intensity of aesthetic beauty, exposed to the weather, and discarded by society or nature. This work is informed by my investigation into ageing, death, ritual, mythology and the unsettling duality of consumerism and ecology. I hope to draw the viewer in to explore the collective form via a theatrical encounter, circling around and gazing into the intimacy and poetry of individual pieces.
