Architecture Through the Lens of the Video Game

While architecture and architectural techniques are often cited and used within video games to create detailed narrative spaces, the utility of the video game within architectural practice goes largely unexplored.

This studio seeks to uncover the game beyond commericial rendering tool; it will examine the game as systems of rules and fiction that allow us to communicate a variety of agendas and atmospheres that usually bleed from the traditional methods of orthogonal drawing and as a means of exploring architecture beyond the built.

There will be a focus on experimentation, rapid iteration and capturing idiosyncracies throughout the design process. Students will participate in a weekly ‘game jam’ studio in which their skills, theories and ideas will be pressure-cooked into a series of architectural game spaces.
