Cultural Convergence (Tang Frères Market, Paris)

The Pompidou Centre today exemplifies the superficial transformation of an architecture for the local Parisians into a touristic destination for Paris. How can we subvert this ambition of iconography to achieve a place that empowers the local Parisians to celebrate diversity and community dynamism?

The new Tang Frères “parkscape”, as an alternative model (“The Counter-Pompidou”), seeks to overturn the political dictatorship of The Pompidou to conversely celebrate the dynamic empowerment and local unity of the people. Concurrently, it will also act as a counterpart to The Pompidou through the utilisation of the same hardware but different software of flexibility, to provide an urban canvas of opportunities for cultural expression – a place full of possibilities.
