This final design research studio will create a creative consortium to project future possibilities for (sub)urban Melbourne through designing a series of new points along a proposed Rowville Metro line.
Recognising the power of architectural images and propositions, we will turn transport fiction into urban and architectural fantasies to engender fantastic foundations for future realisation, while evading the foibles of TODs. The Rowville line is not a problem to be solved, but a fruitful context to consider strategies for urban reconfiguration, architectural activation, and models for coordination, intensification and precipitation. Working collectively and individually we will develop powerful images, strategic urban approaches and stimulating architectural interventions that are proactive, provocative, propositional and prescient. Projects should exceed constraints propagated by the pragmatics of the present to pave the way and paint pictures of what might be possible.
If you are tired of talk about transit oriented development and transit corridors, and itching to imagine alternative futures for Melbourne’s growth through connecting coordinated networks and architectural nodes, come make a point! Work within a multi-disciplinary consortium to point Melbourne forward.......
