From a LOW VILLAGE community to a SUPERBLOCK back to PUBLIC ARCADES through decay and re-weaving
Sewoon Revival Reactivation of Sewoon Residential + Commercial Complex through Accelerated and Controlled Decay
Sewoon is the first mixed residential and commercial building in Korea located in the capital city, Seoul. It was built by a Korean architect called Soogeun Kim. It was a sensation at the time and was very active and busy being the only electronics mall in Korea with many celebrities and technicians living in the apartment units.
However, time has gone past and Sewoon is becoming deteriorated, but people who want to keep Sewoon as their ongoing memory, are speaking of creating public spaces to attract people and promote that Sewoon still exists. Because Sewoon is such an important building in the history of Korean architecture and many people have memories of their youth at Sewoon, as an alternate to demolishing the whole complex and building a new complex, the project looks at perfoming accelerated but controlled decay to revive Sewoon.
