This studio will introduce students to methods of appropriating abstract material as a mechanism to filter data and to provide a set of rules by which to make design decisions; design decisions which ultimately manifest in a visual language. Students will be expected to develop a critical stance on this mode of design. This studio is placed within Urban Environments: has its focus on the concept of precedent, type, and the pragmatics of infrastructure and the urban scale including civic consciousness and hence civic narratives. Students will be taught methods of developing a critical response to the studio site. Subsequently, students will be required to design a building that is aesthetically and functionally embedded within its urban context.
