Alana CookePosition: Research Fellow, Department of Architecture Qualifications:
Personal Statement: Alana studied Architecture at the University of Melbourne and the Royal Danish Academy of Fine Arts, School of Architecture and graduated with honors in 2007. Alana is interested in working within existing building frameworks, understanding and expanding their history and materiality. She is interested in the design potentials of flexible spaces and the ways in which people appropriate and inhabit them. Her work is based in a material praxis grounded in the tectonic logics of architecture. These interests build on field work experiences in Copenhagen and Istanbul where she explored various scales of dwelling and the effects of the local culture and urban context. Alana has had previous experience working as a student in architectural offices in Australia, Denmark, and Berlin including Williams Boag, Henning Larsen Architects and LIN. She is currently involved in the Sustainable Affordable Housing Initiative at Monash University.
