Recent Activities
Studios Second year design students are currently engaged in the design of a community facility in the temporary village at Kinglake. Visiting lecturers from the Rhode Island School of Design, Silvia Acosta and Adrienne Benz have been working with a group of 20 students on the development of the design and is due to start construction in late September.
Visitors
- Robert McBride and Debbie Lynn Ryan recently presented the current work of McBride Charles Ryan at the faculty forum lunchtime lecture series. Projects included the shortlisted Melbourne University Architecture building and award winning housing projects including the Klein Bottle House and Letterbox House.
- Visiting professor, Silvia Acosta presented the design and build community projects she has been carrying out with students at the faculty forum lunchtime lecture series. She also spoke about the forthcoming Kinglake project being undertaken by Monash architecture students.
- Nader Tehrani's practice Office dA, in association with John Wardle Architects was recently announced as the winner of the new Melbourne University Architecture building.On his recent trip to Melbourne, Nader visited Monash Architecture and participated in a strategic planning workshop session with academic staff.
- Renowned New Zealand architect, Christopher Kelly from Architecture Workshop recently visited Monash Architecture and spoke to first year students about the practice's current projects.
- Also in a recent visit, structural engineer Peter Lim from Tensys spoke to second year students about the principles and construction of tensile structures — illustrated with work including local and international buildings and collaborations with Anish Kapoor — and led a workshop involving physical and digital modelling.
Achievements
– Second year student Andrew Devine has recently been awarded a High Commendation in this year's Think Brick, About Face Student Design Competition for his first year Templestowe Fire Station project.
– Second year students, Andrew Devine and Jesse Gould have won a two-stage student competition to re-design the Monash Engineering department's staffroom balcony. The project will now enter a design development phase before being documented and constructed early next year.
