Research Projects
Australian Video Art Archive
The Australian Video Art Archive (AVAA) was established in 2006 to counter what Australian academic Daniel Palmer termed ‘cultural amnesia’ in relation to video art in Australia – a lack of knowledge of its own history predominantly due to the scarcity of documentation.
The aims of the Australian Video Art Archive are to:
- c ontinue building an on-line video archive and a research collection of new and historical Australian video and performance art works
- t o allow researchers to borrow the material for educational, research and exhibition purposes &
- t o transfer old video or film artworks to a digital format to conserve the work and thus assist in the conservation of a significant genre of Australian art history
Currently, the collection contains some seminal works by prominent Australian artists. This collection will continue to expand and we are accepting submissions to consider for inclusion.
The archive has been established with generous assistance from the Faculty of Art & Design, Monash University with the involvement of Dr Anne Marsh, Matthew Perkins and Elena Galimberti.
